Non-Profit Rescue · In Honor of Steve Irwin
Steve-O Crocodilian
Sanctuary
A home for the ones nobody else would take.
100 acres of refuge for rescued crocodilians — living in peace beside Vivarium Crocodylus in Winters, California.
Why We Exist
Steve Irwin taught the world to love what it feared. We carry that forward.
Every crocodilian we take in was out of options — too big for a backyard pond, too close to a neighborhood, surrendered by an owner, or already marked for death as a nuisance.
We give them 100 acres, lifelong care, and dignity. No tricks, no shows — just a safe place to be a crocodile, and a chance for people to fall in love with them instead of fearing them.
Every animal saved is a small act of protection for the wild itself.
What We Do
Rescue. Refuge. Respect.

Rescue & Refuge
The Animals Nobody Else Would Take
We take in the crocodilians no one else will — nuisance animals, surrenders, and confiscations that would otherwise be euthanized — and we give them a permanent home for the rest of their lives.
Nuisance Animals
Crocs and gators removed from where they're not wanted — alive instead of destroyed.
Surrenders
Animals outgrown by owners who can no longer care for them, taken in without judgment.
Confiscations
Working with agencies to home animals seized from illegal or unsafe situations.
A Forever Home
Once they're here, they're here for life. No re-homing, no shows, no exceptions.

Meet the Residents
Each One Has a Story
From rescued crocodiles and alligators to caimans and rarer crocodilians, our residents make up what we intend to be the largest rescued crocodilian collection anywhere — every animal a second chance.
Rescued Crocodiles
True crocodiles given sanctuary instead of a death sentence.
Alligators
American alligators surrendered, seized, or removed — now safe.
Caimans & More
The smaller crocodilians that so often end up unwanted.
A Growing Family
Every rescue adds another life to the 100 acres.

Observe, Don't Perform
On the Animals' Terms
There are no demonstrations at the sanctuary. You come to watch these animals live naturally, in a beautiful and quiet setting built for them. The shows and the bulk of the education happen next door at Vivarium Crocodylus.
No Shows
We never make the animals perform. Here, they simply live.
Natural Setting
Lagoons, banks, and open space across 100 acres of refuge.
Quiet Viewing
Walk, watch, and learn — at a pace that respects the animals.
The Park Next Door
Demonstrations and education live at Vivarium Crocodylus, steps away.

Awe and respect, never spectacle or cruelty.
Protect the Misunderstood
The most feared animals deserve the most fierce defenders.
Crocs Are Worth Saving
Every single one — even the ones the world gave up on.

Protect the Wild
Conservation & Environment
Protecting these animals means protecting the wild places they come from. We pair rescue with light education and conservation partnerships, because saving an animal and saving its world are the same fight.
Habitat Matters
Crocodilians are keystone species — protect them and you protect a whole ecosystem.
Light Education
Quiet, on-site learning about who these animals really are.
Conservation Partners
Working alongside agencies, researchers, and other sanctuaries.
Be a Voice
Every visitor who leaves caring is a new advocate for the wild.

Find Your Way In
Not a zoo. A last refuge.
Across the country, crocodilians deemed a nuisance — too big, too close to people, surrendered, or simply unwanted — are routinely killed. There is almost nowhere for them to go. We are that place: a permanent, protected home where rescued animals finally get to just be crocodiles.
